This paper is informed by a policy dialogue process that ACPD facilitated between September 2004 and May 2005 on the issue of greater integration of HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). The paper is also informed by ACPD’s attendance at a number of sessions addressing integration at the International AIDS Conference in Bangkok, Thailand (July 2004) and an NGO Global Roundtable in London (August 2004) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).

This useful tool is a compilation of selections relating to reproductive health and rights and sexual health and rights from the Concluding Observations and General Comments or Recommendations developed by six of the UN human rights treaty bodies. It is designed to assist government departments and agencies as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in monitoring compliance with (and violations of) these rights. It is also designed to assist in the development of advocacy manuals, training programmes, and research.

This report was prepared by ACPD and constituted the basis for discussions with parliamentarians member of the Standing Committee on Immigration and Integration. Bill Siskay (NDP) and Meili Faille (Bloc Quebecois) are particularly very supportive of ACPD’s effort to have Canada ratify the Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Migrant Workers and members of their family.
